Today I managed to create a pretty nifty UI node in Dynamo. Shortly after, I realized it can provide some interesting user experiences.

Isolated Pick Selection in Revit with #DynamoBIM

Dimitar always provides awesome help on the forums. After seeing this post recently, this made me want to explore the pick selection further.
After a lot of hacking at the code, I finally managed to get something useful.

After the user supplies the category to isolate for the selection, they can then proceed to select the elements in the order that they are required.

And of course, special thanks to the ones who shared code to make this possible.

Verify Dimension Accuracy in #Revit with #DynamoBIM

It’s not very often that I stumble upon things in Dynamo that make me nervous, but there are times.

Recently, a discussion popped up on the Dynamo forums regarding overriding dimensions. I think most people’s feelings surrounding this kind of workflow are generally, NO!!

 

Thankfully, not only can you wreak havoc with the Revit API, you can fix it too!

Enter the Dimension.IsOverridden node!

With this workflow you can override the color of screwed with dimensions pretty easily.

What does Dynamo and good pizza have in common?

Just about everybody loves pizza and just about all Revit users love the idea surrounding Dynamo. The problem is, not everyone knows how to make a good pizza. A question came up recently over at archi-lab (https://twitter.com/arch_laboratory/status/708416967598854144). The user expressed a lot of frustration with the difficulty involved with learning Dynamo and getting support. There were also some remarks thrown out that "well it's cause Revit and Dynamo sucks and Rhino+Grasshopper can do it better." 

The thing is, anyone can make a good pizza if they are patient enough. It's the same thing with Dynamo and Revit, if you are patient enough you can make Revit+Dynamo do anything that any other software can do. 

Given the growing community and open source nature of Dynamo, I think this is the year we all look to teach others how to "make a good pizza". 

Initially I didn't include a comment regarding the consultancies being formed and all of that. Currently, there are a few that I know of and several training websites that are paid. The way to look at this is simply as another way to learn. Generally speaking, everyone involved in all of these paid versions of learning are super knowledgeable and great people. Especially the bad monkeys!

Just some thoughts.
